    Rules of Roof Maintenance

    Quick Summary

The essential rules of roof maintenance including regular inspections, debris cleaning, post-storm checks, and emergency services.

Proper roof maintenance is essential for protecting your investment and ensuring your home stays safe and dry. Follow these essential rules to maximize your roof's lifespan and performance.

    ๐Ÿ” Regular Roof Inspections

Frequency: Have your roof inspected at least once every 2 years by a trained professional.

Many common issues can be avoided by simply having your roof looked at. At Triumph, we provide complimentary inspections for all of our customers and we will gladly make an appointment to come look at your roof.

    What We Check During Inspections:

    • โœ… Shingle condition and granule loss
    • โœ… Flashing integrity around vents and chimneys
    • โœ… Gutter and downspout condition
    • โœ… Signs of water damage or leaks
    • โœ… Structural integrity

If we find an issue, we will document it with photos and will explain in understandable terms what the issue is.

    ๐Ÿงน Cleaning the Debris

Throughout the year, debris from trees and ambient dust can build up in your roof's valleys and in your gutters. This debris can cause "damming" to occur in the crucial places where water is supposed to drain from your roof.

    Why Debris is Dangerous:

Roof systems are "gravity controlled" systems, meaning they require a free path for water to naturally escape due to the pull of gravity. Water will always seek the point of least resistance, and thus if debris is blocking the path, it will find other means of escape which can mean coming inside your home!

    Additional problems from debris buildup:

    • ๐Ÿฆ  Growth of fungus and microbes
    • ๐ŸŒฑ Algae development
    • ๐Ÿชด Small plants taking root
    • โš—๏ธ Degradation of organic compounds in shingles

    โ›ˆ๏ธ Inspect After Severe Storms

Critical thresholds: Winds of 50 mph and hail of only quarter-size can cause significant damage to roof systems.

As roofs age, they naturally degranulate and will become more and more vulnerable to hail and wind damage over time.

After a Storm - Take Action:

    1. ๐Ÿ“ž Call us immediately if you suspect damage
    2. ๐Ÿ“ธ Document any visible damage with photos
    3. ๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Get a professional inspection
    4. ๐Ÿ“‹ Contact your insurance company
    5. ๐Ÿ”ง Begin necessary repairs promptly

If you know you've had hail or high winds at your property, give us a call and have us perform a free inspection of your roof. If we find storm damage, we will work together with you and your insurance company to provide an excellent solution.

    ๐Ÿšจ Emergency Services

If you have suffered storm damage and can see any of the following, contact us immediately:

    • ๐Ÿ  Missing shingles
    • ๐ŸชŸ Broken skylights
    • ๐Ÿ”ฒ Broken windows
    • ๐Ÿ’ง Active leaks into your home

It is extremely important to quickly have a roofing company install emergency temporary repairs (i.e. tarps, etc.) on your roof, windows, or siding to mitigate any further damage.

    โš–๏ธ Important Insurance Information

Most insurance policies have a "mitigation clause" that states you are required by the terms of the policy to mitigate any damage that you are aware of in order for your claim to be fully honored.
